  • Bike sizing refers to the process of determining the appropriate frame size and geometry for a bicycle based on an Individual's Specifics. Body dimensions, flexibility, stability. and rider’s needs. Proper Bike Sizing is essential for comfort, efficiency, and safety when riding. You will receive a dedicated report outlining your specifics for all of your bikes current and for future purchases.

Here are the key components of bike sizing:

    1. Frame Size

This is usually measured in centimeters (cm) or inches (in) and correlates to the length of the seat tube. Different types of bikes (road, mountain, hybrid) may have different sizing conventions.

    2. Standover Height

This refers to the distance from the ground to the top of the top tube. A rider should be able to straddle the bike comfortably while standing.

    3. Saddle Height and Fore/aft Adjusting the saddle position is vital for ensuring proper leg extension during pedaling, enhancing comfort and power transfer.

    4. Handlebar Stack and Reach These aspects affect the rider's position and comfort. Some riders may prefer handlebars that are higher or closer depending on their riding style.

    4 Geometry

Individual differences in leg and torso length can influence the ideal bike size even if two riders are the same height. Bike geometry is just as important as the size.

Getting the right bike size involves both measurements and personal preferences regarding riding style.

You add a sizing to any bike fit.

  • Bike fitting is the process of adjusting a bicycle to match the specific measurements and preferences of the rider. Ensure optimal comfort, performance, and efficiency while cycling. A proper bike fit takes into account various factors. The rider's body dimensions such as height, inseam, arm, and torso length, flexibility, riding style, and any physical issues or injuries.

If you are uncertain of your needs, Sign up for a Basic Sizing and Rob will make sure you are properly looked after.

The key aspects of bike fitting typically include:

    1. Frame Size

Selecting the right frame size is crucial. It affects the rider's position and control over the bike.

    2. Saddle Height

Adjusting the saddle height ensures that the rider can pedal efficiently without overstretching or adding stresses.

    3. Saddle Choice and Position

The saddle may need tilt and fore/aft adjustment to align with the rider’s hips and knees. Your control in pedaling will improve comfort and power transfer.

    4. Handlebar Stack and Reach Proper handlebar height and reach help maintain a comfortable riding posture, reducing strain on the back and arms.

    5. Cleat Position

For those using clipless pedals, the placement of cleats can affect foot alignment and pedaling efficiency.

    6. Rider Posture

Ensuring the rider maintains a healthy posture while on the bike helps prevent injuries and discomfort during long rides.

A professional bike fitting session may involve specialized equipment and software to analyze the rider's biomechanics. Experience and knowledge will guide adjustments to various components of the bike, such as the seat, handlebars, and pedals. Overall, a well-executed bike fit can enhance the rider's experience, improve performance, and reduce the risk of injury.

Rob will adjust your needs appropriately as mutually discussed in your initial interview.

What should I expect in a Sizing ?

In a Sizing, we will consider multiple options. You may want

  1. To make a new bike purchase and be guided to the best options of size and geometry.

  2. To customize the fit of your current bike based on your body, not what you have or can fit into.

  3. To update your current bike with new parts such as crank, stem, handlebar, saddle, seat post or pedals based on anatomical measurements. Improving standard equipment on your stock bicycle.

  4. The Data for your future Bike rental or purchase.

  5. Or all of the above.

A Sizing takes 60 to 90 minutes on our initial meeting and will include

  • An initial Interview

  • Measurement and Assessment of Body and Recording of Data

  • Discussion and Introduction to Bike Buying options

Within determined 48 hours, a report is emailed with reference to collected data, information required for client’s needs and purchase details. This support continues through the buying process until your bike has been purchased. We have partnerships with many shops, but you choose where to make your purchase.

What to bring to a Bike Fit or Sizing ?

You are requested to bring your existing Bicycle, Shorts and Shoes.(Multiple shoes if you use more than one pair) Clothing you would wear on a warm bike ride would be recommended.

If you are new to cycling, please bring a pair of shorts and light shirt or jersey for ease of taking measurements. (No previous bike required)

What kinds of tools do you use with your bike fits and sizing ?

We use an Experienced Eye along with measurement instruments that are reliable, precision oriented, and less averaging.

In addition, Video Analysis, Photography and Motion Capture are used as required during any session.

Saddles, Stems, Handlebars, Pedals are amongst several support items available for trial and purchase.

Shims, Wedges, Q Factor spacers, Bar Gel, Grip and Tape are available to supplement your fit.

Why do you emphasize a Follow up with Bike Fitting?

We are living through the experiences of our clients. All cyclists of all levels will need a period of up to 500 km to allow the body to adapt to your new position.

Riding outdoors in your natural settings should provide different feedback. The static environment needed in a bike fit does not include handling characteristics found in descending, cornering or addition of wind.

Like your Local Bike Shop, we are here to help. Follow up and future information is integral in the development of your cycling. That’s why we partner with many Medical and Bike Shop Professionals.

The Door is Always Open !

“Rob not only reassured that the bike was the correct size but soon overhauled it to perfectly fit my body and fitness level.”
